A strop provides a surface which is then charged with an abrasive that performs cutting and polishing functions. Although synthetic materials are used in some strops ( in order to save costs), we believe leather is the ideal stropping surface as it contains a natural abrasive believed to be silica; hence the use of just the leather strops in barber shops with no abrasives. We apply the leather to the medium density fiberboard form to keep it absolutely flat. For putting that fine cutting edge on a chisel or a plane blade, it is essential to apply an abrasive to the leather surface prior to sharpening. At this time we are offering three leather strops for your sharpening needs.
The "Broad" Strop has a leather surface measuring 3 1/2" X 9", this strop is capable of sharpening your widest chisels and plane irons. Use of the gold polishing compound as the cutting medium. (Use our 3121-0003)
